OverView
JW Markets commenced work with Goldilock co-founder and COO Stephen Kines in 2023. After initial meetings / reviews to understand the strategic direction of the business and the skill-set / backgrounds of Goldilock’s senior leadership, it was decided that a very senior military figure with deep cybersecurity expertise could be critical to success. Goldilock offers dynamic physical network segmentation, e.g. when specific IT control systems are not being used (or a hack is detected) at, say, a utility operator, the relevant components can be instantly and remotely isolated via an air gap, minimising risk to the operation of critical infrastructure and services.
The Challenge
Achieving an excellent result for Goldilock required reconciling the requirement for a very senior military leader with niche skills, against the relatively early stage of Goldilock’s development.
The Solution
As is often the case, the catalyst for an industry veteran’s involvement is down to their perceived ability to add value. It is the responsibility of JW Markets to undertake detailed research to understand the fundamental drivers of value-enhancement, so that nobody’s time is wasted. In this case it involved a deep dive into all areas of the military involved in cyber security-related activities, and the backgrounds of key personnel.
The Result
After extensive research, Sir Chris Deverell was approached by JW Markets. Chris could immediately understand his ability to add value and the potential of Goldilock. Sir Chris Deverell’s experience as Former UK Armed Forces Chief of Staff (of Joint Forces Command) gives him significant experience in terms of the application of cybersecurity within the defence and critical infrastructure sectors. In the rank of 4 Star General, his last role was as the Commander of Joint Forces Command and one of the UK Chiefs of Staff, responsible for UK Special Forces, Defence Intelligence, Operational Command and Control, Cyber, Space, Information Systems and Services, Defence Medical Services, Defence Education, Defence Force Development, Logistic Policy, and all UK Joint Operating Bases around the globe. The quality of appointment was noted by Cyber Magazine in its January 2024 edition.
“You had done your research…Well done!”
Sir Chris Deverell
Ex-UK Armed Forces Chief of Staff
